Budgeting for Word of Mouth through the Customer Experience

This week I take a look at some simple things Magnolia Market in Waco, TX does to purchase Word of Mouth. For those that don’t know Chip and Joanna Gaines, hosts of the HGTV show Fixer Upper are a designer and contractor team that help people get their dream homes by buying houses that need a lot of work.

Part of what is really cool about the examples I share in the video directly correlate to their “brand beliefs.” Anyone who has watched even a couple of their shows knows how they are into restoration, iron and wood craftsmanship and a white wash look. These themes show up as their “architectural hooks” for their great word of mouth efforts.

What kind of things could you include to align your values and beliefs to your social media/word of mouth triggers?

Hit Your Registration Targets and Drive Greater Event ROI with Video

Running live events for your customers or prospects can have a big impact on your business, but it can also be very costly and resource intensive. So, you not only have to make sure that the event itself is a great experience, but that you’re delivering a positive return on investment back to the business.

My name is Tyler Lessard, and in this Chalk Talk, we’ll explore how you can use video in creative ways to hit your registration targets and deliver a positive value and greater ROI all year round from your next event.

Now, I’ve run a number of events in my time and I know how stressful they can be. You’re trying to hit registration and attendance targets, deliver an amazing experience on the day of the event, and ultimately deliver a positive ROI through customer satisfaction, but also ensuring that your event is resulting in new leads, new opportunities, and new revenue from either your existing customers or new prospects who are engaging in that event experience.

So, let’s talk about how video can help you do each of these more effectively than ever, and it all starts with the pre-event madness. This is where you’re trying to generate interest and awareness to drive registrations for your event.

Building Pre-Event Buzz with Video

The first thing is something a lot of marketers are already doing, which is using video content as a way to showcase what this event is all about, using B-roll footage from previous years’ events, using customer interviews from previous years’ events, to show people exactly what to expect and what they want to come to be a part of.

The second thing you can do is something that’s new and innovative, and a great way to stand out, called personalized video. With personalized video, you can send out a broad campaign to your audience where you weave the individual viewer’s name, company name, or other information about them, right into the video itself as a way to create a memorable and amazing first-touch experience.

It works so well with events because we’re used to receiving an invitation that has our name written right on it, and an event is no different. So, imagine being able to send out a video to 50 thousand, a hundred thousand, whatever it is, people you’re targeting with a video with their own name right in it, maybe on a ticket to the event, maybe on a badge that’s already been printed, something like that, to get their attention and to draw them into the experience. We found that, with events, using a personalized video email campaign, as opposed to a traditional text-based email, generates a five times higher response rate on average, which can be the difference between a hundred attendees or several hundred attendees.

The next thing you’ll want to think about doing is having your own sales team doing direct one-to-one outreach to prospective attendees using personal video messages. Now, what this is is the ability for your reps to record themselves on camera delivering a personal message right to that target attendee. It’s much more effective than just sending the same old email to tell them, hey, you should come to this event. When they get on camera, it creates a more personal and direct experience, and they can explain exactly why that individual is going to get value out of being there.

These are some great ways to make sure that you’re delivering a very personal outreach to get more and more people engaging in your brand, and wanting to come and attend your event. Now, it’s the big day, the event is about to happen. What are you going to do on site at the event to not only make the live experience more valuable, but to collect and deliver content that you can use the rest of the year to deliver more and more ROI?

Live Video During Your Event

Once your event has kicked off, the first thing you’ll want to think about is live streaming your keynotes or some of the main sessions that are happening physically at the event itself. Now, this is a way to extend the reach of the event, on the day of, to remote audiences who couldn’t attend in person. Now, with tools like Vidyard, what you can do is not only live stream the content, but you can use email gates, interactive forms, as a way to generate new leads from those who are opting in to engage in the live content. And this can be a great way to use an event to actually generate net new leads and opportunities in nontraditional ways.

Next, you’ll want to record as many of the live presentations as possible. This can become amazing content for future programs after the event that you can use for ongoing lead generation and opportunity development, or content you want to share with your customers as a way to educate them and improve their satisfaction. So, think about having somebody on site with a camera that can record each of the sessions that you can produce on demand afterwards.

Those same individuals can also be recording interviews with speakers, with thought leaders, with customers, as a way to get interesting new content that you can use on your blog, and in future marketing programs, as a way to, again, get more value out of what you’re doing physically at the event. And, finally, you’ve probably got a number of your own customers there. This is a great opportunity for you to capture live customer success stories, nothing to do with the event itself, but because your customers are all there in one place, maybe you can knock off three, four or five live, on camera, customer success stories that you can use as testimonials throughout the rest of the year in your marketing and sales programs.

When you’re thinking about the on site experience, don’t forget to think like a Content Marketer, and I really encourage you to get your whole marketing team involved to brainstorm on how you can leverage all the investment going into the live experience in different ways that can manifest itself in amazing content you can use all year round.

Keeping the Excitement Rolling Post-Event

Once the event’s happened, you’ve captured a lot of amazing content, people were loving the experience. Now, how can you continue to deliver value the rest of the year? Well, it all lies in leveraging this amazing content you captured. Consider publishing a video hub, where you have all the different recorded presentations, and share that with your customers, or your prospects, as a way to educate or generate new inbound leads, right? What if you have 500 people to your event but 5,000 who come and register to watch the on-demand content?

You are increasing the value of the event itself and actually generating new opportunities from the virtual content that you may not have been thinking about before. The other thing you’ll want to think about doing is use these presentations, these interviews, as great content for your blog or for your other online marketing programs. Transcribe the audio, put them out there. That’s amazing content that is no additional cost for you to create or produce, and it can do wonders for you all year round. I know, when we do an event, we do a lot of these interviews and we sprinkle them out through the year, and we’ve got content for the next six to 12 months that fill our pipe.

So, lots of amazing ways in which you can use video content. Before your event, to generate buzz, at your event, to produce more value from it at the time of the event, as well as use it post event, to generate more inbound leads and more activity, and to feed your content marketing programs throughout the rest of the year.

B2B Consultant Sellers are Changing Sales Forever

Salespeople have a bit of a bad rap. For every sleazy salesperson that will do anything to close a deal, there are hundreds that go the extra mile for their prospects rather than their paycheque. And thankfully, the world of sales is changing because of that second group. And it’s changing for the better.

Attention and engagement are the new currency of B2B sales, so smart sales people are acting more like consultants than quota-carriers, and the extra effort is paying off. As automation takes over more and more of the buying process, sales people that use tools like personalized video, advanced sales analytics, and social engagement tools are seeing up to 300% lifts in positive responses, and meeting cancellation rates drop by up to 10%. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Changing the Attitude and Activity of Sales

As B2B sales professionals move towards a more consultant-driven sales approach, it’s not just technique that is changing – it’s also attitude. As Forrester points out in their new report, B2B Consultant Sellers Reign In The 21st Century, top sellers are master storytellers, empathetic partners, and focused on advocacy rather than closing the deal. These are just three of the six key attributes of successful sellers in today’s B2B market.

On the other hand, attitude only gets you so far, and actions speak louder than words. Forrester notes that successful salespeople are also networking more than ever to build cadence with prospects early in the sales cycle, mapping and planning deals more in-depth before outreach, and most importantly, sharing and collaborating with their peers to give everyone on the team an advantage.

The new breed of sales professional is connected, collaborative, and consulting rather than selling. Will your team be able to keep up? Download our report Rise of the Consultant Seller and Video-Enabled Sales Team, which includes B2B Consultant Sellers Reign In The 21st Century and make sure your sales team is ready to meet the new world of B2B sales head on!

Top 10 Reasons Why Video Should Take a Leading Role in Your Content Marketing Plan

Video is the Star of Content MarketingIt’s no secret that the use of video in content marketing is on the rise. And, it’s certainly not a tactic to be taken lightly. In fact, YouTube is now the second largest search engine on the web and while video marketing is frequently an afterthought, its value demands a front-runner position in your content marketing plan.

Here are the top 10 reasons why video is a star player in the content marketing landscape and should be in your marketing plan, too.

10. Improved SEO

First off, utilizing video in your content marketing efforts will no doubt improve your SEO. In fact, according to Comscore, adding a video to your website can increase the chance of a front page Google result by 53 times.

Of course, that’s when you do it right. Want to learn more about how to properly optimize your videos for search? Check out these tips from Moz CEO Rand Fishkin.

9. Stronger Consumer Attention

Videos have been proven to demand more consumer attention than any other medium. And while we’re in the midst of what some might call a content-overload for consumers, capturing attention is particularly key.

“The attention economy is not growing, which means we have to grab the attention that someone else has today.” –Brent Leary, Co-Founder, CRM Essentials

8. Higher Engagement

We’ve heard over and over that visual content is the key to great engagement. Video is no exception. So when you’re considering what types of posts to schedule on social networks in the coming weeks, think video: audiences are about 10 times more likely to engage, embed, share, and comment on video content than blogs or related social posts.

7. More Video-favored Technology

With the increased consumption of video and the resulting rise in production, technologies are leaning more and more towards favoring the video-marketer.

Consider Facebook’s addition of the auto-play for example. It’s hard to argue that a status update or link to an article demands as much attention as a video in your newsfeed.

6. Greater Optimization Opportunities

How much of your latest blog post did readers consume? Did they re-read parts of it? Or come back to it later and read it again? Did they share it with friends? The truth is, it’s pretty hard to answer these questions on text-based content.

Video, on the other hand, has this feedback loop built in. Measure click-through rate, drop-off points, or number of times watched. You can even drill this down to an individual level.

It all boils down to this: the feedback loop for videos means you know what’s working and what’s not. Now to focus on more of the stuff that’s working!

5. Higher Retention Rates

65% of viewers watch more than ¾ of a video, which is more than we can say about text-based content. So if you have a message to get across (and why wouldn’t you if you’re creating content?), video might be the way to go.

4. Better Email Click-Throughs

You slaved over that email copy for days and it contains important information for your customers! But does it resonate? Will it drive results? Will recipients even read it? Enter: video. The use of video in emails has been shown to double click-through rates. More effective emails? Yes please!

3. Rise in Accessibility

While creating a video used to take many months and many thousands of dollars, the production of great video content has become much more affordable in the last few years. Companies like VideoMakerFXGoAnimate, and Sellamations make the creation of video as easy as writing a blog.

2. Stronger Emotional Connections

Video is the most powerful way to evoke emotions online. It’s King because it offers a slew of attributes above and beyond traditional content like tone of voice, face expressions, and music, to name a few.

While you may not have feel the immediate need to run out and buy a product from an emotion-filled video, they will likely be at play later on in a more subtle and subconscious way. Evoking emotion in marketing has been proven to positively impact consumer decision-making, even in B2B markets.

1. Increased Customer Conversions

The number one reason for using video in your content marketing plan? Video converts more customers. Simple, right? Recent research shows that 71% of marketers say video conversion rates outperform other marketing content. Need we say more?

Conclusion

That’s it: 10 reasons you simply can’t ignore video any longer. Video’s earned its keep; give it its fair share of real estate in your content marketing plan. But before you get started on recording your first video, make sure you have a video strategy in place!

Meet the Vidyard Team, Video Style: Miko Taruc

Meet the Team is our monthly chance to introduce you to the fabulous, quirky, talented people who work at Vidyard, using our favorite medium — video! For this episode, we caught up with Miko Taruc, Software Developer here at Vidyard. Discover Miko’s favourite video game of all time, and why he wasn’t allowed to be a Power Ranger when he grew up:

What Didn’t Make the Cut

Miko shared a lot more than just his love of Pokemon, so here are a few more of his answers:

What is your favorite video on the internet right now?

My favourite video hasn’t changed since it came out. – it’s still the Gandalf one where everyone walks up the mountain and he yells out his little scream:

Ahh, it makes me laugh just thinking about it.

What brought you to Vidyard?

I had originally come here for a co-op term! My interviewers came in late that day due to a scheduling mixup, which pushed back all my other coop interviews. So I didn’t have much of a choice but to say yes to this one! I ended up loving the job so much that I stuck around an extra two terms, and then stayed for full time!

Increase Customer Satisfaction and Reduce Support Load with Video

Your customer expectations are changing. They’re demanding the highest engagement from your customer support team as possible. Hi, my name is Craig Stoss. I lead the technical support team at Vidyard and today in this Chalk Talk we’re going to discuss how you can use the power of video to engage with your customers from your support team.

Video is a very powerful tool for support. It can engage with your customers in a way that goes deeper than images or text could ever do. Within that support context, if you use video, you’re going to see an increase in your customer satisfaction, you’re going to see a decrease in your time to resolution, and you’re going to see your time to resolution go down as well.

Explaining the Complex, Simply

Now, how are we going to do this? Think of something like tying a bow tie. If you were to describe that in text or images, you would have many, many steps. Your images would have to have arrows and diagrams and be very complex. But with video, you can describe exactly where to hold that tie, where to loop that through and make sure that your customer has a perfect bow tie every time.

Video can help describe these complex things very easily, and if you have a product or service that has many of steps, you can create 30- to 60-second videos and aggregate them into a video knowledge center that is branded and contains all of your content. This knowledge center is searchable, it has SEO components to be found by search engines, and it gives your customers a way to engage with you and your content in a direct way. And it’s not just one or the other. If you have a current knowledge center that’s text-based, you can embed these videos directly into your text-based knowledge center and engage with your customers at both levels.

By providing that level of self-service you’re going to see an increase in case deflection because you providing clear, less confusing examples using video. But, if a client or prospect does contact your support team, they can still send video to try and answer the question. And at the end of the video, with a tool like Vidyard, you’re going to see a call-to-action to say “Did this video solve your support case?” And when the customer clicks yes or no, it will immediately notify your CRM and your tech support reps so they can either close the case or contact the customer directly. And it’s not just for self-service. You can create just-in-time solutions that help explain those complicated ideas by providing a more engaging experience.

Personalizing the Support Experience

For example, I could say “Hi, my name is Craig Stoss. Jessie, you just contact us about tying your bow tie and I’m going to provide you with a video with all the instructions. Right after this video you’re going to see a 30-second clip with all those details on how to tie your bow tie and you can contact me if you have any trouble.” Then I can include that video on how to tie a bow tie in my reply email and Jessie will be immediately able to say yes or no, this helped me.

I’ve provided him with my name, my face and talked to him as a person and that allows me to engage with him in more deeper way. It also shows there’s no automation or bots in the background. And within Vidyard we actually think that this is quicker than writing an email because these videos are very short and very engaging. It also eliminates a lot of assumptions. Video allows you to add captions or descriptive video so that you can reach a broader spectrum of your customers with the same content.

So, today we learned how you can use video for technical support to increase your customer satisfaction, reduce your time to resolution, and reduce the cost per call. My name is Craig Stoss and I hope you learned something today.
